Let's see if I can name all 4: Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and.....(*&^$!!
Ok so let me be the first to admit that I am not a stereotypical gay. I never bought any of the Sex and the City DVD's. PJ happens to have the WHOLE series on dvd but I'm sure that's just the female roommate's collection and not his. ;)
But I will say, I was an avid fan whenever there were episodes on tv as I channel surfed. Somehow over the years everyone came to love those 4, especially for their crazy shenanigans that, no matter how many martinis and men were involved in a night, they were always able to sober up enough for a 3 mimosa brunch the next day.
But what really made the show reach out to the gay population was, although none of the main characters were gay, the girls still had gay friends who were completely supported and loved. Maybe it was because they offered free fashion advice at any time, whether or not it was requested.
Now usually I consider myself to come up with the best little one-liners to summarize a point. But on Saturday evening, SATC star Cynthia Nixon said it better than I could have. At the annual New Yorker Magazine Festival, she was placed on a panel for a session called "Love and Obstacles: The Case for Gay Marriage." And of course they sat her next to NOM's Brian Brown.
(to connect the dots for you, NOM = National Organization for Marriage, which is the organization that put out those "Storm is Coming" commercials. Oh and to connect you further, if you had watched the "Storm is Coming" parody video made by hollywood actors, you would have recognized Jason Lewis, who played Samantha's hot young boyfriend on the series. Ok you're caught up.)
And, this is what Cynthia, aka Miranda, had to say to Brian Brown:
"I want to say to the gentleman to my left, gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table...We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people."
Now let's go watch the 'roommate's dvd's.

I loved that the guy had the look upon his face like he got suddenly enlightened by Nixon. His face says: damn I look stupid now. I love my SATC box set. TV series - yes, movies - not so much.
